Did you hear that? Presented at UBS Gallery, Red Hook, New York, 2025, as part of Double Take: Bard MFA Thesis Exhibition. This work explores the speculative species, the Fermata Frog, which was born in the floodplains of the loading dock outside of the garage door of the UBS Gallery. The Gallery is located on a site that is both dangerous and flood-prone, which led to injuries of students and destruction of student work on-site in 2023. It imagines what a non-human creature might do to educate the public about the history of the space and intervene in the present. The gallery nearly flooded during the first few days exhibition was open, activating a performance and a sign posted outside educating the public about the species. Sourced from the Distillery Building and the nearby Reserved Channel, these drawings, rubbings, silkscreen prints, electrostatic prints, and sounds bring us back underwater, imagining what might have happened if the South Boston seashore was never filled in. These images are a form of experimental documentation produced during Zoom interviews with Black, Indigenous and Latinx communities of Long Island.
